The library’s mission is to support the research, education and outreach activities of the UW Aquatic Sciences Center and both of the institutes it administers. The library will circulate all materials in the library collection to any UW system faculty, staff or student who requests them.
HOW TO REQUEST AND BORROW MATERIALS
UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff may use their valid university ID to borrow materials online or in person for the Water Library. UW System faculty, staff and students can also request our materials through their home institution’s online catalog. All others should contact the library.
All materials circulate, except the current issues of journals and newsletters. The loan period for all UW-Madison and UW System faculty and staff is semester long, ending on December 30 or May 30, with six renewals. The loan period for UW-Madison and UW System students and all other patron categories is 28 days with two renewals.

HOT TO RETURN MATERIALS
Thanks to the “open return” policy, all UW-Madison library users may return library books to any campus library that participates in open return. Return our materials to any participating library and they will be checked in there and routed to us. Please remember that open return only applies to books. Other materials should be returned directly to the owning library.
