Michaela Goade is a Caldecott Medalist and #1 New York Times Bestselling illustrator of \u201cWe Are Water Protectors,\u201d also a 2020 Kirkus Prize Finalist. Other books include the New York Times Bestselling \u201cI Sang You Down from the Stars,\u201d \u201cEncounter\u201d and \u201cShanyaak\u2019utlaax: Salmon Boy,\u201d winner of the 2018 American Indian Youth Literature Award for Best Picture Book.<\/p>

Over the last few years, Michaela\u2019s work has focused on Indigenous KidLit. She is honored to work with Indigenous authors and tribal organizations in the creation of beautiful and much-needed books. An enrolled member of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, Michaela\u2019s Tlingit name is Sheiteen and she is of the Kiks.\u00e1di Clan (Raven\/Frog) from Sheet\u2019k\u00e1.<\/p>

Michaela was raised in the rainforest and on the beaches of Southeast Alaska, traditional Ling\u00edt Aan\u00ed (Tlingit land). Today she lives in Sheet\u2019k\u00e1 (Sitka), Alaska, a magical island on the edge of a wide, wild sea.<\/p>
